dan dan daaaah!!!! cause its true, this post is being written by a parent.
Starting off with Ye olde memes
AND NOW THERES A BABY
TWAS THE CRY HEARD ROUND THE WORLD
And the whole world did hear too, thanks to grandmother Kristine Sarkkinen. First grandbaby is a big deal and the B&K foundation has been very involved.
She is 6 months old now. Having a baby is a crazy thing. Your kid does something cute and you wonder-does everyones kids do stuff that is this cute? Am I doing a disservice to the world by not posting a pic? Avery has recently started laughing if you tickle her and it sounds like an old man rasp laugh. You just can't help but feel like yours is the cutest, chubbiest and most talented.
Needless to say, the OALC of Wilmington was very delighted with the newest member.
Basically everyone has been delighted and joyful, the main person who has had to adjust to the little gnome is her mother.
Transitioning to motherhood
When the doctor says Avery is "average"

Well first of all its kind of surreal that this baby just wham! comes out of you . Brad says when she was born and they put her on my chest I just looked at him with complete shock and surprise.
Life as a parent is so different, the doctor calls and says "Is this Avery's mom?" and it takes you a minute to realize yes, you are in fact Averys Mom.
You still do things you used to, but now it looks vastly different.
Its mostly the same except you have this little kangaroo pouch and a cute baby head poking out. And the little kangaroo requires so much.
Also, motherhood is exhausting. It seems easy for the first few days but then the sleep deprivation sets in.

Finally Lucia realized that she had to reclaim herself and break free from the motherly guilt.

Rules were established
The changes helped Lucia to remember who she was before the little gnome showed up and enjoy motherhood.
These days, Lucia is a much happier mom and is doing more to take care of herself. Overall its a better scene for Brad to come home to.
The big lesson to be learned was that everything isn't so black and white. You can try something for a while and then change it if its not working.
Also, once you have a baby you have a newfound respect for all moms. Its not as easy as it looks.

Nels and Kristen got married October 9, 2021. We are very happy for them and delighted that the burden of giving Kristine more grandchildren can be shared.
