Hey hey,

The meal plan I posted last week was NOT what we ended up with. Nope

instead we had chili and soup because we were hit by a summer cold.

I have an issue with the word "cold" because it makes you think of someone with a runny nose. It does not correctly describe the feeling of your throat feeling like you smoked a pack of cigarettes the night before. It does not describe the head pressure, congestion, headache, weepy eyes and constant cough.

And when it hits in the summer it feels especially cruel.

Of course all the kids had it too, and I tell ya steady steady mucus streams from both nostrils all day long. So gross, even with the whole moms unconditional love thing. The unconditional love thing was also tested at all hours of the night when they needed medicine and water.

If I had a reality show the scenes from this week would look something like this:

Camera pans over the living room to Avery, who is asking for 10th time if she can watch Miss Rachel. Her hair is a mess and her face is dry with the snot she keeps rubbing out of her nose. Thomas enters stage left, eating a hot dog bun he found in the pantry. I am bleary eyed, still in pajamas, and looking around wondering where to start. Camera zooms in to the mess, and first you think its highlighting the flies buzzing around the jam spills on the counter, but it keeps going and then stops at kitchen stove to show the time is 11:45 am.

Good times in the Bakken, I tell you

Since Sunday is Fathers Day, I am going to try out a hot wing recipe. Brad loves them but we barely ever make them because, um, you have to take out the deep fryer. I'm thinking I need to find an oven recipe that is more doable even if a little less authentic.

The main theme of this week was SURVIVAL. Just getting by. One of these days we are actually going to make Mexican Hot Dogs, but for now its just not in the cards. Planning (and hoping) for a better, healthier, sunnier, more productive week

Happy Meal Planning,

Lucia
